Chiefs vs. Bills: Highlights and Past Stats

Week 6 (2020)

Line: Chiefs -5.5

Over/Under: 55.5

Result: Chiefs 26, Bills 17

Buffalo hosted Kansas City at the Bills Stadium during Week 6. Both teams were striving to win their division and earn home-field advantage during the AFC playoffs. On the other hand, both 4-1 teams also lost a game last week.

The NFL moved the game from Thursday to Monday. This move gave Buffalo more rest time after playing a rescheduled game versus the Tennessee Titans.

Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City was also trying to bounce back from a loss to the Las Vegas Raiders during the previous week. The high-powered offense still racked up 413 yards in the 40-32 loss versus the Raiders, which snapped a 13-game winning streak.

The Raiders effectively kept quarterback Patrick Mahomes off the field for over 35 minutes during the game. However, the offense still achieved 413 yards of total offense.

Mahomes racked up 340 passing yards and two TDs. He also had a rushing score.

Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelee had already teamed up for 769 receiving yards and eight TDs.

The Chiefs offense added rookie Clyde Edwards-Helaire. He had 80+ scrimmage yards in four of the first five games.

The Chiefs were 9-2-1- during the last 12 games versus AFC teams. Coach Andy Reid was going for his sixth win in nine games versus Buffalo.

Buffalo Bills

Buffalo was returning to the gridiron after a massive 42-16 loss versus the Titans. The Bills still led the conference in total offense with 401.8 yards per game.

Quarterback Josh Allen had already become one of the NFL’s top passers by the beginning of the season. In fact, he was one of just three NFL QBs with 2+ touchdown passes in each game. Allen scored three TDs on the ground and threw just three interceptions.

He also had a 100+ QB rating during four of the season’s early contests.

Wide receiver Stefon Diggs had also become an impactful player. In Week 5, Diggs led the Bills with 10 receptions for 106 yards. The WR also entered Week 6 with a league-leading 509 receiving yards.

Starting running back Devin Singletary totaled 75+ scrimmage yards during three of the season’s games. The Bills were also hoping RB Zack Moss would return from injury for the game.

The Bills defense improved somewhat in 2020 after being ranked in 2019 within the top three teams in points allowed and yards allowed.

Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White was questionable for the game. Even if he returned, the Chiefs’ offense would likely test his recovery.

AFC Championship (2020)

Line: Kansas City -3

Over/Under: 54.5

Result: Chiefs 38, Bills 24

The Chiefs and Bills led the NFL in total offense before their playoff rematch at the Arrowhead Stadium.

Kansas City Chiefs

Former MVP Mahomes led the 15-2 Chiefs to become the top-ranked NFL team in total yards and passing yards.  Meanwhile, TE Travis Kelce had 8+ receptions in eight of the last nine games.

Kelce and Tyreek Hill became the league’s most dangerous duo. During the regular season, Kelce ranked second in the league in receptions and receiving yards.

Hill made the All-Pro team after racking up 1,276 yards and 15 touchdowns. Both players gained 100+ yards during the previous week.

Meanwhile, Mahomes ranked second in the NFL in passing yards during the regular season. That included 4,740 yards and 38 touchdowns.

Chris Jones and Frank Clark led the Chiefs’ defensive line with 13.3 combined sacks. Meanwhile, safeties Daniel Sorenson and Tyrann Mathieu combined for 10 interceptions.

Buffalo Bills

The 15-3 Bills were ranked second in the league in total yards and scoring. WR Stefon Diggs entered the game with 6+ receptions in 15 straight games.

The Bills were 11-1 during their past dozen games. Allen had thrown for 5,000+ yards, including the playoffs.

WR Diggs led the NFL in receptions and yards during the regular season. He also racked up 234 yards in the NFL playoffs.

The Bills’ running attack included Devin Singletary, who rushed for 956 total yards during the regular season. On the downside, the Chiefs had the NFL’s 21st-ranked run defense.

Jordan Poyer (24 tackles) and Davious White (5 takeaways) led Buffalo’s secondary.

With all these stats and key players, it’s no wonder many betting enthusiasts are so invested in the NFL. However, there’s a fine line between passion for betting and gambling issues.

Chiefs vs. Bills: Matchup History

Most Memorable Games

1991 Season (Division Round): Bills 37, Chiefs 14

The Bills avenged a 33-6 loss on Monday Night Football during the regular season. Buffalo easily defeated Kansas City and dominated in total offensive yards.

A big difference from the previous game that season was that linemen Bruce Smith and Jeff Wright returned for the Bills. Meanwhile, WR Don Beebe returned to the Bills offense.

The Bills built a 24-0 lead by the third quarter. Bills QB Jim Kelly threw three TD passes. Receiver Andre Reed caught two touchdown passes while running back Thurman Thomas also had a big game.

Bills kicker Scott Norwood added three field goals after struggling towards the end of the regular season.

The Bills were also able to slow down the Chiefs’ rushing attack after the RBs had performed well during the regular season.

1993 Season (AFC Championship Game): Bills 30, Chiefs 13

The Bills chalked up a win, led by RB Thurman Thomas, who rushed for nearly 200 yards and scored three TDs. The Buffalo’s ground game also had much more success than Houston’s during the divisional round.

This was the third year in a row that the Bills defeated a future Hall of Fame quarterback to advance to the title game. They defeated Chiefs QB Joe Montana that year, and previously Dolphins QB Dan Marino (1992) and Broncos QB John Elway (1991).

Montana became one of a small number of NFL quarterbacks that started in the conference championship for two different teams. He was also a 49ers starter in multiple NFC championships.

2020 Season (AFC Championship): Chiefs 38, Bills 24

The Chiefs advanced to the Super Bowl for the second season in a row. This result was largely due to the performance of QB Patrick Mahomes. The defense also played better than earlier in the playoffs.

The Chiefs fell behind early in the game. Kansas City then engineered a 21-point swing during the second quarter. They took the lead for the rest of the game.

KC combined a high-powered offense with a solid defense. The Chiefs were able to hold Stefon Diggs to under 80 yards. He led the league in receiving yards during the regular season.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs’ defense constantly pressured Bills QB Josh Allen. While he only threw one pick, the Chiefs defense shut down Allen’s connection to Diggs that had succeeded in the regular season.

The Chiefs’ offense committed no turnovers, which was partly due to the offensive line protecting Mahomes.

Chiefs vs. Bills: How to Bet on Games

When betting on a Bills vs. Chiefs game, here are some of the many types of bets you can place:

Over/Under: This bet is also referred to as the total. It projects the total number of points two NFL teams will score in a game.

Moneyline: Bettors must pick either the winner or loser of the NFL game to win the straight-up (SU) bet. For example, you could pick the Baltimore Ravens or Cleveland Browns in a game.

Parlays: You must win all of the bet’s legs to win the whole bet. For example, bettors would win a bet if they correctly picked the Eagles, Rams, and Patriots.

Proposition Bet: A prop bet is popular in different sports leagues like the NFL, NBA, and MLB. These bets are usually on individual players, although less frequently, they’re on specific game events.

Teasers: This multiple-leg bet requires you to win all the legs to win the bet. You can move all the point spreads to a more favorable line, which then lowers the odds.

Live Betting: This kind of bet permits you to make a bet after the opening kickoff is aired on networks like CBS and Fox but before the last snap.

Point Spread: The number of points by which the football team wins or loses determines this popular betting type. A minus sign (-) shows the favorite (for example, the Green Bay Packers -3). In contrast, the plus sign (+) shows the underdog (for example, the Tamba Bay Buccaneers +3).
