Bears-Steelers: All-Time Series

The Chicago Bears and the Pittsburgh Steelers met each other 27 times in regular and postseason matchups between 1934 and 2017. The Bears outplayed the Steelers, 19-7.

The 1986 NFL Regular Season: Week 13 Matchup

The Steelers had a 4-8 standing when they faced the defending Super Bowl Champions, the Chicago Bears, in the intense Week 13 matchup that led to overtime.

Pittsburgh’s Iron Mike elected to kickoff. But the Bears had a strong defense, forcing a punt and setting up Kevin Butler’s winning kick. Chicago won via OT, 13-10.

1995: The Steelers’ Road to Super Bowl XXX

In 1995, Pittsburgh started with a 3-4 standing. After their terrible loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, the Steelers beat the Jaguars in Week 8. Then, Pittsburgh traveled to Chicago to take on the Bears, who then had a 6-2 standing.

During the Bears-Steelers’ matchup, the lead changed five times, and the score was tied three times as Pittsburgh and Chicago fought back and forth. All hope seemed gone for the Steelers when the Bears’ linebacker Barry Minter returned an interception to put his team up late in the fourth quarter.

Meanwhile, the Steelers’ QB Neil O’Donnell rebounded, capping off the drive with an 11-yard strike to Pittsburgh’s wide receiver Ernie Mills. The Steel City managed to tie the game inside the two-minute warning.

Coach Bill Cowher of the Steelers seemed to gamble it all when he sent in the two-point conversion unit, forcing Chicago to burn their final time out. However, Pittsburgh kicked the extra point instead.

Pittsburgh’s Willie Williams picked off Chicago’s Eric Kramer in OT to set up Norm Johnson’s game-winning field goal for the Steelers.

The match ended with a dramatic victory for Pittsburgh, 37-34. They faced the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl XXX but failed to secure the championship. The final score was 27-17.

Bears-Steelers: Stats Last Season

NFL 2017: Week 3 Matchup

The Bears’ Jordan Howard pushed through the pain in his right shoulder to give his team the lift they needed.

Chicago’s Jordan Howard got a 19-yard run in OT to lead the Bears to a victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football.

Howard’s winning score came after then-rookie running back Tarik Cohen broke off an electric run for a 73-yard-game-winning touchdown. Although Cohen was ruled out, Howard took over from there and got a big assist as he ran along the left side.

The Bears’ wide receiver Deonte Thompson seemed to have grabbed Artie Burns of the Steelers while pushing him out of bounds. However, no flag was thrown. Chicago came away with a surprising victory of 23-17.

Bears-Steelers: 2017 Betting Trends

Before the Bears-Steelers Week 3 matchup in Heinz Field, Pittsburgh was 4-1 against the spread in their last five games as favorites on the road. In contrast, Chicago was 5-1 ATS as home underdogs.

Chicago Bears (2-0 SU, 0-1-1 ATS) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (0-2 SU, 0-2 ATS)

Why Oddsmakers Thought Pittsburgh Could Cover

The Steelers were off to a 2-0 start in the 2017 NFL season after beating Minnesota, 26-9. Pittsburgh grabbed a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter and stopped the Vikings back in contention on their way toward covering an eight-point spread.

The Steelers, headed by Coach Mike Tomlin, outgained the Minnesota Vikings 335-237 and won the time of possession by a 34/26 margin. Pittsburgh’s running back Leveon Bell ran for 87 yards in Week 2, while his teammate, wide receiver Martavis Bryant, caught three balls for 91 yards and a TD. Meanwhile, kicker Chris Boswell hit four field goals.

In addition, Pittsburgh had a 21-18 victory over the Cleveland Browns. The Steelers, as 10-point favorites, had that spread covered with a 21-10 lead.
