Cardinals vs. Packers: Highlights and Past Stats

Cardinals vs. Packers Odds: Week 13 (2018)

Moneyline: GB -729, ARI +548

Point Spread: GB -13.5, ARI +13.5

Over/Under: 41

Result: Green Bay didn’t cover the spread, so the Cardinals defeated the Packers 20-17.  With a combined total score of 37, the game went under.

Arizona Cardinals

Head coach Steve Wilks and the Arizona Cardinals faced two-time NFL MVP Rodgers as heavy underdogs. QB Josh Rosen led Arizona’s struggling offense.

Rosen completed 55% of passes with 10 touchdowns. However, the offense was ranked 32nd in the NFL, which made it last in the league.

Arizona needed more output from players like wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald. Cornerback Jaire Alexander needed to cover him.

Kicker Zane Gonzalez started for the Cardinals after the Cleveland Browns released him earlier in the NFL season.

The Cardinals’ defense had an NFL-leading 37 sacks but suffered injuries in recent games. Defensive players on the NFC West team’s injury report included left guard Lane Taylor (quad) and left tackle David Bakhtiari (knee).

Cardinals linebacker Chandler Jones ranked fourth in the league with 11 sacks. The Packers could use backup tackle Jason Spriggs to protect Rodgers.

The Cardinals played the Packers in the NFL playoffs in recent years. The games included a shootout first-round wild card game in 2010 and a 2016 divisional playoff game.

Arizona was seeking its first Super Bowl victory. The Cardinals appeared once in Super Bowl 43, but they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Green Bay Packers

Green Bay lost its last game to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday Night Football (SNF). This result dropped the Packers to 4-6-1 for the season and reduced their playoff chances to 2.3%.

During its last five games, the Packers lost all four road games and beat the AFC East’s Miami at home. They finished the season with three of five games at home.

The Packers were 24th in the league on third down conversions. One factor was that WR Randall Cobb was out with a hamstring injury.

Green Bay and its QB Aaron Rodgers were struggling. The situation was partly due to the team taking a “draft and develop” approach.

Only a few offseason draft picks like Kenny Clark worked out well. Many other draft picks didn’t work out, including:

  • Datone Jones
  • Damarious Randall
  • Ha Ha Clinton-Dix

Rodgers also reportedly disagreed with Head Coach Mike McCarthy over play calls. Brett Hundley started for Rodgers after his injury the previous season.

In the 2018 season, Rodgers struggled and often overthrew receivers. His inaccuracy may have been partially due to adjusting to the new offensive system.

All-pro QB Rodgers didn’t have an outstanding offense, but four wins in 11 games made it a disappointing season.

It is rare for teams with 40% or lower winning percentages to be double-digit favorites like the Packers in Week 13. Past teams that were bigger favorites included:

  • Seattle Seahawks vs. Chicago Bears (2015)
  • Los Angeles Chargers vs. Kansas City Chiefs (2008)

Cardinals vs. Packers: 2020 Past Betting Trends

Week 13 (2018)

As reported on some NFL podcasts, the weather forecast for the regular-season game at Lambeau Field changed last week.

The weather update included snow and strong winds during the game. This factor caused the point spread to drop to 13.5 leading up to NFL Week 13.

One reason Green Bay stayed big favorites in the Cardinals-Packers spread during the week was the public perception of the Packers as being a “good team” despite the losing record.

Many experts, meanwhile, considered the Packers to be overrated. They hadn’t won an NFL title since Super Bowl 45.

Cardinals vs. Packers: All-Time Series Facts

As of July 2021, the Green Bay Packers and Arizona Cardinals have gone head-to-head 75 times, including three postseason games.

In terms of the long NFC rivalry, the Packers may be perceived as the better team with 45 wins. The Cardinals have won only 26 times. The two squads have tied four times.

The first matchup took place in November 1921 when the then-Chicago Cardinals and Green Bay Packers played to a 3-3 tie.

Cardinals vs. Packers: How to Bet on Games

Live Betting: This option allows bettors to place a bet after the game’s opening kickoff aired on networks like CBS, Fox, or ESPN.

For example, you can bet during different game stages in a San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks matchup, such as the first quarter or second half.

Prop Bet: You can place a proposition bet on a specific event or individual player. For example, you can pick whether the Tennessee Titans or Houston Texans will score first in a game.

Another example is you can pick which player in the Denver Broncos vs. Buffalo Bills matchup will record the first TD, interception, or sack.

Parlays: A bettor only wins this bet if they win each part of the bet known as the leg. For example, you’d win the parlay bet if you make the correct NFL picks in these matchups of a 3-leg parlay:

Indianapolis Colts vs. Las Vegas Raiders

Detroit Lions vs. Atlanta Falcons

New Orleans Saints vs. Tampa Bay Bucs

Teasers: This accumulator bet allows bettors to transfer each point spread ( for example, Ravens vs. Patriots) to a more favorable line. It lowers the betting odds of the picks.

Moneyline: This straight-up bet requires bettors to select the winner or loser of the NFL game. For example, in Cincinnati Bengals vs. Pittsburgh Steelers, you just pick the game’s winner or loser.

Over/Under: This bet is also known as a total bet. It projects the combined score of the two teams. For example, in Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants at 49, you must correctly pick over or under 49 points.

Point Spread: This bet is popular in pro sports leagues like the NBA, MLB, NHL, and NFL. The number of points by which the football team wins or loses determines these bets. A minus sign indicates the favorite, and a plus sign indicates the underdog.

Here are some examples:

Los Angeles Rams -10 vs.Carolina Panthers +10

Dallas Cowboys -3 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers +3

Jacksonville Jaguars -7 vs. New York Jets +7
