OUR FAVORITE 2020 WORLD SERIES PICKS

Fall is officially here, and that means Major League Baseball playoffs are in full swing with teams vying for the opportunity to play in the 2020 World Series.

There are eight teams in the running right now: the Dodgers, Yankees, Padres, Braves, Astros, A’s, Rays and Marlins. But which teams have the best chance at taking home the title of World Champions?

The way we see it, there are three teams that deserve the most notice. The Los Angeles Dodgers are the team to beat right now, and they have their sights set firmly on earning their first World Series title since 1988. The New York Yankees were quickly falling out of the power lists of baseball pundits around the country as the regular season began winding down, but now they are back and playing like the Yankees of old. And let’s not forget the San Diego Padres, a team that could surprise a lot of people and make a trip to the World Series despite having a very tough road ahead of them.

Let’s take a look at each team and why they can win it all.

Dodgers (+240)

Los Angeles is the most complete team in baseball right now, and they proved that by going through the regular season on a tear and posting the best record in the league at 43-17. They made it through the opening round of the playoffs by dominating the Milwaukee Brewers. To be frank, they don’t look like there are a lot of teams capable of stopping them.

One team that just might have the ability to do so is the San Diego Padres, the team the Dodgers are currently facing in the Division Series round.

There’s no doubt the Dodgers have the skill and depth to win the World Series. With a lineup that includes players like Mookie Betts and a pitching staff with Julio Urias, Walker Buehler and Clayton Kershaw, there is no doubt the Dodgers are the team to beat.

Yankees (+350)

It wasn’t that long ago — just back in the regular season — that the Yankees looked unbalanced and in critical need of some snappy play from anyone who wasn’t on the injury list. Then they made the playoffs, and suddenly they are peaking and playing like the Bronx Bombers everyone knows and loves (or hates).

Against the Indians in the Wild Card Round, New York had 23 hits over two games, and scored a remarkable 22 runs. There were six Yankees who hit home runs, including the now-healthy Giancarlo Stanton, who hit two dingers.

With Aaron Judge also finding his groove, and guys like DJ LeMahieu and Gleyber Torres starting to really showcase their abilities, the Yankees are suddenly one of the top teams in the playoffs, and quite likely making a run for the World Series.

They’re going to need to pitch well to move through the rounds, but Gerrit Cole and Aroldis Chapman have been playing well, and the rest of the bullpen can step up and win games too.

Can the Yankees win their 28th World Series title? This could get interesting.

Padres (+850)

If there is one team that can topple the Dodgers right now, it’s the San Diego Padres. The regular season came to a close with the Padres holding a 37-23 record, which was the second-best mark in the National League.

Their bats have been hot, though they did have a bit of a worrisome Wild Card Round against the St. Louis Cardinals and it took three games to get past them.

The Padres have to play the best baseball of the year if they hope to get past their fellow Southern California opponents. The first need is for their top starting pitchers to get healthy as Dinelson Lamet is trying to recover from a bicep issue and Mike Clevinger is having trouble with his elbow.

They’ll need some hitting, too, and Wil Myers is going to be asked to step up and lead along with Fernando Tatis Jr.

It is going to take a lot of things to fall into place for the Padres to advance, but if any team has the roster to make it work, it’s San Diego.
