Off
to the races via a satellite wagering facility -- Dear Mark,
I find horse racing one of the most enjoyable forms
of casino gambling. For just $2 I can sit in an
air conditioned race book and watch simulcast races
from all across America. Wow! Any advice for a newbie
horse player? Robert A… more»
One
taco short of a combination plate
-- Dear Mark,
In all your years in the casino industry, I bet
you never heard of this type of superstitious gambling.
My brother-in-law brings a small computer to his
hotel room that has a software program that tracks
a person's biorhythms. He then proceeds to ask dealers
their birth dates, runs back up to his hotel room,
then plots the dealers' emotional, physical and
mental state. Then he goes back to the casino and
only plays on a dealer's table if the software shows
a dealer in a down cycle. Beat that! James M… more»
Plastic
or Paper
-- Dear Mark,
During conversation with one of the many rotating
poker dealers at the Horseshoe in Boosier City,
he mentioned that the cards they used for poker
were essentially indestructible because they were
plastic and theoretically can handle a lifetime
of use. What is your experience in dealing them,
and why are they not used in all table games as
opposed to just poker? John R… more»
I
play occasionally, twice a week
-- Dear Mark,
I've got a dinner riding on this. My husband believes
that you, being conservative when it comes to casino
gambling, would never play the lottery. Do you?

Play

-- Dear Mark,
Two questions, please. Do 25¢ slots pay back
more than 5¢ machines? Also, does Nevada have
the best slots? Sharon T… more»
Player
may not merit a frolic frenzy
-- Dear Mark,
When I stayed at the NY, NY Hotel and Casino (Vegas),
I played BJ and whenever I wanted a comp for food
or anything, they said just put it on your room
charge and your play will be evaluated. Well, that
was my first and last time. When I checked out they
didn't comp my food or beverage, only the room.
What gives? Scott R… more»
Playing
nickel machines with small stakes -- Dear Mark,
I hate to ask this question because so many people
consider keno machines to be losers. However, I
do not do all that bad playing keno. Although I
play table blackjack and slot machines (very selective),
I still love video keno. I can sit at a nickel keno
machine through an afternoon and evening. I pocket
my winnings and continue to play with my original
bankroll. Knowing your interests and that readers
probably concentrate on table games, what are your
thoughts on 5¢ keno? Vicki C… more»
Please
be the queen of spades -- Dear Mark,
Why is it that every time I'm dealt one card short
of the royal flush, when I draw I never get the
card I need? Just yesterday I was dealt all but
the queen of spades, and sure enough, I got the
lousy three of hearts. It makes me believe the casino
controls who and when someone hits a jackpot. Why
can't that queen of spades show up just once? Katherine

Pumping
Oxygen into a casino is NOT a trick of the trade -- Dear Mark,
My friend believes that many of the Vegas casinos
pump oxygen through the air conditioning system
to enrich the air. The purpose is to keep you from
sleeping as long and therefore gambling more. I
didn't notice any difference in my sleeping habits,
but still, my friend insists he's right. Is he?
