NFL Week 2 Picks – Second Week Presents Lots Of NFL Action

Posted by Dave Golokov on 9/12/2012 11:13:58 AM

It was a wild Week 1 in the NFL as rookie quarterbacks were in the spotlight to mixed results, but it was also a mixed bag for the league’s veteran signalcallers as well. Keep an eye on the NFL’s most important decision as you make your NFL Week 2 picks.

Chicago Bears @ Green Bay Packers
Thursday, 8:20 PM ET
Odds: Packers -6

The Bears started slowly, but came around for a 41-21 beating of Indianapolis, and the combination of Jay Cutler throwing to Brandon Marshall is going to be a key to their betting lines in 2012. Marshall had nine catches for 119 yards and a score, and his reunion with Cutler could be deadly.

Green Bay was bossed all over the field in a 30-22 loss at home to San Francisco in a game that wasn’t that close, and their secondary is going to have their hands full with Cutler, Marshall and the Chicago aerial attack.

The Packers have won four of the last five with the Bears outright and covered three times, but Chicago is due and Green Bay’s secondary is truly awful, even with Charles Woodson.

NFL Week 2 Picks: Bears

Detroit Lions @ San Francisco 49ers
Sunday, 8:20 PM ET
Odds: 49ers -6.5

Matt Stafford threw three picks, but still guided the Lions to a 27-23 win over St. Louis and even though a better team would have made them pay, you can only play who is in front of you and Detroit never gave up, which will serve them well in the betting lines in the future. It was a gutsy effort by a team many expect to take a step forward in 2012.

The 49ers were simply the more physical team against Green Bay and punched them in the mouth on both sides of the ball. They’ll have to use the same plan against the Lions, who have been susceptible to losing their cool and the 49ers can take advantage of that.

If the 49ers can at least slow down all-world receiver Calvin Johnson, they should have no problems with the Lions, who have lost eight in a row outright to the Niners.

NFL Week 2 Picks: 49ers -6.5

Denver Broncos @ Atlanta Falcons
Monday, 8:30 PM ET
Odds: Falcons -3.5

Peyton Manning didn’t look like he missed a season in a 31-19 win over Pittsburgh, guiding the Denver offense like he had been with the team for five years. But you have to give credit to the offensive line, which kept Manning upright and from taking big shots for most of the night. That line will be essential to their betting lines.

Atlanta may have been the best team of Week 1 and they were almost flawless in a 40-24 romp at Kansas City. Julio Jones terrorized the K.C. secondary and that is only going to open things up for Matt Ryan, Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez.

The Broncos have won two of three with Atlanta since 2000, but this team is obviously different with Manning. Two teams with high-flying offenses and suspect defenses?  This should bring Week 2 to an exciting conclusion.

NFL Week 2 Picks: Falcons -3.5
