In spite of his interesting trio of vocations, we're here to focus on Gaughan's exploits as the Buffalo News' main Buffalo Bills writer.

Gaughan served as an intern at the paper and graduated from Buffalo State College before taking a position at the Binghamton Press.

The Buffalo News hired Gaughan as a full time reporter back in 1984 and he started out covering high school and college sports before being assigned to cover the Bills in 1988 and then, the lead beat writer in 1999.

NFL fans and avid followers of the Bills will find that Mark Gaughan is one of the most versatile gridiron writers around. Not only does he spit out insightful columns like this one about Buffalo's logjam at linebacker , but he can also team up with another writer to produce another informative piece about Buffalo's starting left tackle or how veteran signal-caller Vince Young has put a stranglehold on the Bills' backup quarterback job.

Oh, and if you think you're going to get anything other than the flat-out truth from Gaughan, think again. He calls it as he sees it and writes it that way too…just like in this post about Buffalo 's Week 2 preseason blowout at the hands of the Minnesota Vikings.

Gaughan also operates an in-season Friday feature "Question Mark," in which he answers NFL fans' questions. The fun-filled feature started in 2003 and has been wildly popular with Bills fans and followers ever since.

The Buffalo native also writes about golf for the paper, having gotten lucky enough to cover a trio of majors including, the U.S. Open, the Masters and the PGA Championship.

One thing's for sure, if you want to know all about the Buffalo Bills and what's going inside the inner workings of the team, then Buffalo News sports reporter extraordinaire Mark Gaughan is undoubtedly the man to follow.
