Sports Betting Online: Football Picks.
by Kevin Taylor | September 25 2009
The sports betting public has had two heaping helpings of football the last couple of weekends and this one delivers another huge football betting card, with a full slate of NCAA and NFL action.
NCAA Football Picks
Purdue vs. Notre Dame:
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team doesn't belong to a conference, but that doesn't mean they don't have rivals.
USC, Michigan and Michigan St. are just a few schools that the Irish eyes stare at with that school spirit-fueled hatred.
The Purdue Boilermakers are another team that ND has a longstanding rivalry with and the Boilermakers are getting set to host the Irish this Saturday.
Notre Dame is favored by a TD and the Over/Under is set at 60.5 but the blue and gold are a little black and blue.
Although the Fighting Irish defeated the Michigan St. Spartans by a final of 33-30 last week, the victory came at a price.
QB Jimmy Clausen sustained an injury and was seen limping and leading WR Michael Floyd broke his collarbone, had surgery and according to ESPN he could return in two months time, although some media outlets are reporting that he could be gone for the season.
The news is better for Clausen who was diagnosed with turf toe on his right foot and likely will line up behind center come Saturday.
However, according to reports, the Notre Dame signal-caller's mobility could be hampered and he will wear a special insole in order to compensate for the turf toe.
The Associated Press reports that head coach Charlie Weis worked with Clausen to adjust to his passing mechanics in order to alleviate pressure on his foot.
Leading rusher Armando Allen Jr. is also banged up, suffering from an ankle injury and his status will be determined at game time, Weis said Allen Jr.'s workload could be limited if he does play.
In ND's last 10 games when favored by 8-points or less, they have produced an Over eight times and the Under twice.
Despite the injury problems, this Notre Dame squad should find a way to cover those points.
Check the current NCAA Football Lines.
Miami vs. Virginia Tech:
While the ACC is usually known for basketball, the conference has two teams currently in or hovering around the Top 10.
The No. 9 Miami Hurricanes will travel to Blacksburg to take on the No. 11 Virginia Tech Hokies with the 'Canes favored by a field goal and a Total of 47.5.
It's been a while since both school had a shot at a national championship—the Hokies were hammered by Florida State in the 2000 Sugar Bowl and Miami lost to Ohio State in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl—but the two could have a shot at a national championship this year if they play their cards right.
Miami is listed at +1000 to take the BCS title this year while Virginia Tech is more of a long shot at +7500.
The Hokies have the edge over the Hurricanes in their last 14 meetings overall, going 11-3 against the spread.
The Hurricanes' last nine road games have resulted in a 7-2 record ATS.
I like the Miami Hurricanes to cover this spread.
NFL Picks
Carolina Panthers vs. Dallas Cowboys.
But there isn't just college football this weekend; there will be some NFL as well.
"If at first you don't succeed try, try again," as they say and that is what the Dallas Cowboys will be trying to do.
One week removed from a 33-31 loss to the New York Giants in the first-ever game at the new Cowboys Stadium, Dallas will again be on the hunt for regular season win No. 1 in their new digs.
The Cowboys will host the Carolina Panthers on Monday Night Football and are favored by 8.5-points with a Total of 47.5.
While Dallas is favored by close to 9-points, they could be missing a key component on offense.
RB Marion Barber suffered a strained quadriceps muscle last game and his status for Monday has remained a mystery.
Although there were reports that he would miss one or two games, Barber was seen at practice, taking part in drills and according to Dallas' official website, he could be a game-time decision.
Felix Jones and Tashard Choice will split duties in the backfield if Barber can't go.
The Cowboys have fared will in their last eight games against NFC South opponents going 6-2 ATS.
But I like the underdog panthers in this one.
Enjoy all the games.
