Although Stephen Ross is the majority owner of the Miami Dolphins, he added a high-profile partner this week.
Gloria Estefan, fittingly the lead singer of the Miami Sound Machine, has joined the ownership group, which includes Ross and former majority owner Wayne Huizenga.
Gloria Estefan and the Miami Dolphins… sort of has a strange ring to it.
Estefan will be a minority owner of a team that had one of the biggest turnarounds in league history going from 1-15 straight up and 5-9-2 against the spread two seasons ago to 11-5 SU and 8-8 ATS last season; the team won the AFC East title.
Going into 2009, a number of factors will prevent the Dolphins from building on last season's success.
Division-rival New England will see the return of star QB Tom Brady and of more importance, Miami has the hardest strength of schedule, with the sum of its 2009 opponents combining for a record of 152-104—online sportsbooks have the Dolphins listed at +800 to repeat as AFC East champs.
Miami is definitely not expected to win 11 games again this season and the win Total for this year is relatively low as the Over/Under for the number of regular season wins is set at 7.
The NFC division from which the Dolphins will draw their opponents from in 2009 is the NFC South—the New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers—and they have only played four games against that division dating back to 2005 going 2-2 SU and ATS.
Miami is also listed at +1800 to win the AFC title and +4000 to win the Super Bowl at SPORTSBETTING.COM.
The Dolphins don't have to worry about taking the field for some time but the New York Yankees and the Mets are about to begin another Subway Series with Citi Field as the backdrop of this iteration of the cross-town rivalry.
The sports betting community is taking note and getting their bets in on these baseball odds.
Baseball Trends: In the last 20 games between the Yanks and Mets at Shea Stadium, the Metropolitans have a slight edge going 11-9 SU but in the last 20 games between the two overall however, they are even at 10-10 SU.
In the series opener, the Mets are listed at +145 while the Yanks are -165 and the Total is set at 9.
The Mets will send Mike Pelfrey to the mound and in his last 20 home starts his team has gone 13-7 SU.
The Yanks are relieved that CC Sabathia will be able to start. Sabathia injured his left bicep on Sunday in a game against the Marlins and there was some question as to if he would make his next start, it seems as if the question has been answered.
In Sabathia's last eight road games, the Yanks have only gone 4-4 SU but they have been more reliable on the Total going 3-5 O/U.
The Subway Series always captures the imagination so enjoy this edition.
Have a good weekend.
