I was checking out the US Open odds to put in a few US Open bets, as I always do for my favorite major of the year, when I noticed a new contest was up.

I'm looking at taking Tiger Woods over Lefty, as would most people. Tiger has looked very good heading into this tournament, while Phil has been dealing with some real tough news regarding the news that his wife was recently diagnosed with cancer. It's great Phil is playing, but I don't see him keeping up with Tiger.

I also like Geoff Ogilvy to win his US Open matchup over Jim Furyk. This is the kind of course that sets up well for Ogilvy's game and he is one of the best ball strikers in the world. He has proven he can win big tournaments and excels on the greens. I'm playing Ogilvy.

I'm also going to play Anthony Kim over Justin Leonard. Kim is one of the best players in the world and set to have a big tourney. I like him in this matchup.

I'll handicap the other contest matchups out tomorrow as I get ready to put in my picks and take a shot at the free US Open contest cash.

US Open Betting:
I'm also looking at betting a couple of matchups. Looking at the list of US Open betting matchups at the online sportsbooks, I like Lee Westwood at +125 over Ian Poulter. The sports betting community are all over Tiger Woods in his matchups, so I'm staying away from that one and trying to find value elsewhere.

I also like Zach Johnson to beat Carmen Villegas. The betting odds on Johnson are even money.
